Maison Martin Margiela on Tuesday showcased its new furniture prototypes and home objects at the international furniture and design exhibition Salone del Mobile here.
Wallpaper, bookshelves, lamps and carpets were some of the new items on display in the showroom, which reproduced the company’s interior design workshop in Paris.
The project is still a work-in-progress and will likely range from the design of objects and furniture in a self-produced collection or in the development of one-off partnerships, according to Pungetti. The company will also do commissions for individuals or public interior design and architecture.

LV QR codes by Takashi

Referred to as the barcode of the future, a QR Code (Quick Response Code) is a matrix code which allows its contents to be decoded at high speed. Tokyo-based design agency SET has developed a new remake of the QR Code with artwork provided by Takashi Murakami. Although it serves as a faster means for ringing up/tracking merchandise, this new method is just another way to incorporate marketing into something that is somewhat meaningless to the average consumer albeit interesting to say the least.

A SNEAKERHEAD
is a person (orignated from the lifestyle of Alejandro Hernandez) who owns multiple pairs of shoes as a form of collection and fashion. It is often manifested by the use of shoes primarily made for sports, such as tennis or basketball, as normal everyday clothing. The birth of sneakerhead culture came in the late 1980s and can be attributed to two major sources: basketball and hip hop music. The boom of signature basketball shoes in the late 1980s provided the sheer variety necessary for a collecting subculture, while the Hip-Hop movement gave the sneakers their street value as status symbols.

Mishka spring 2009 lookbook
Inspired by the efforts of Mishka NYC, retailer Extra Butter has taken it upon themselves on more than one occasion to put together some interesting and visually captivating lookbooks of their own. This time around, the shoot was inspired by the 2009 Mishka spring release “Kaiju Invades” tee done by L’amour Supreme. As well the shoot includes a special guest spot bassist Kent of No Redeeming Social Value. Hats off to Extra Butter for going the extra mile and putting their own little spin on things.

Nigo Cedes Roles At A Bathing Ape

An interesting article was just published by WWD about the re-organization of A Bathing Ape. Nigo will actually stepping down as president and director of the brand and will be staying on as designer.
“Nigo said he will continue as the majority owner of Nowhere Co., Ltd., A Bathing Ape’s parent company. He will also continue as the designer of A Bathing Ape (also known as Bape) as well as his partnership with singer/producer Pharrell Williams in the Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream brands, where he is co-owner and head designer.”
It seems like a pretty standard move. As the brand grows and become too big, the founder stays on as the creative and business people take over the reigns. Let’s see if this will cause some changes at the brand.
UPDATE: We heard that next seasons Bape collection is actually designed entirely by Tet from WTAPS. Tet is taking over the Creative director position for next season. We are definitely looking forward to the new season and can only imagine the best to come out of it.
